WITH percentage likely to play a part in deciding who plays finals this season, Newbridge’s inaccuracy in its win over Mitiamo may come back to haunt the Maroons.

Thirty-six scoring shots to 12 translated into a 49-point win, with a 1.7 to 0.1 first quarter particularly painful for coach Jayden Cordy.

“It’s a bit frustrating – we needed a nice big win for percentage, but in the end we got the win, which is the most important thing.”

After five consecutive defeats, Newbridge needed the victory to keep in touch with Inglewood and Maiden Gully, the other teams battling for fifth spot.

For the first time this season, Cordy hopes the Maroons will be unchanged at selection for the clash with Calivil.

Captain and key forward Brandon Dimech is set to return a week later against Macorna, which shapes as one of the key games of the year.

“Our best footy is good enough to match it with anyone, but our bad footy is bad enough to be beaten by anyone,” Cordy said.

In a tight season, he’s hoping to “pinch a few wins” in the run to the finals and grab that fifth spot.

Veteran Chris Dixon booted four in the win against the Superoos, but he is likely to make way for Dimech when he returns, while Jon Coe was at his commanding best in the defence.

A five-goal last term saw Mitiamo put some meat on the bones, with Brayden Baines kicking four of his side’s nine goals.
