WHAT about us? That was the clarion croquet call after one absolutely hooped local player wanted to make an impression with the mallet for omitting his sport from the weather comparisons in OTF last week. “Was up at Benalla, we played through drizzle in the morning, even some heavy rain with thunder and lightning. The only time we’ll stop is if the ball floats ... or there’s a good spread for afternoon tea.”

SPEAKING of refreshments on the table, one chap ventured off to a committee meeting the other day for a local corporation. Skipped breakfast, expecting a reasonable spread to sustain during deliverations. Turns out the CEO was away and all that graced the plate was a few biscuits.

COULD be a remedy for that. The co-owner of a Boston bakery is offering baked goods as a reward for the safe return of the eatery’s “mascot,” a large plastic ice cream cone named Swirly. Swirly, a fixture outside of Flour Bakery on the Boston Common, was initially feared to have blown away during the winter, but co-owner Joanne Chang said she now has good reason to believe the mascot is still nearby. “He was possibly spotted in a nearby dorm window looking down longingly at home and we have reason to believe he may be confused about where he is.”
