AUSTRALIA Energy Market Operator has acknowledged the release of a preferred option route through the Loddon Shire may have come as a shock for local communities.
Nicola Falcon, AEMO's Victorian planning planning group manager, made the statement during a special Loddon Herald forum in Wedderburn yesterday discussing the plan that will see VNI West 500 kiloVolt inerconnector routed between between Wedderburn and Charlton and through Boort and Pyramid Hill.
More than 60 people attended the forum with many more watching online.
Local landholders questioned AEMO on why there had only been consultation on the preferred option and not also on other routes in the report released in late February.
Full reports will appear in next Thursday's Loddon Herald.
