One of the better efforts

A TENCIOUS Calivil side kept biting at the heels of finals-bound Inglewood all afternoon but couldn’t quite get over the more experienced Blues in the end.
Still, a 48-point defeat was one of the Demons’ better efforts against a top side, although coach Sam Maher was left frustrated.
“We played all right, but at times we had control of the game, and we weren’t able to put it on the scoreboard,” he said.
“But it gives us a bit of confidence and there were some really good signs.”
Among them was youngster Tyler Rasmussen, who has been playing more midfield time after spending most of his first season with the Demons as a defender tasked with negating the opposition’s best mid-sized forward.
Maher said Rasmussen was “tough and tenacious”, and with another recent graduate from the Under 18s, Flynn Clymo, was the future of the team.
Calivil also played three East Loddon Rams players against Inglewood, a sign of things to come.
For the Woodies, Tarran Kilcullen kicked his first senior goals for the season in his fourth game, ending with five in a breakout performance.
Small forward Mischa Fraillon rolled an ankle and was goalless after booting 10 a week earlier against Mitiamo and midfield dynamo Bregon Cotchett had a rare quiet day, although he kicked two goals.
Riley Murphy was among the best afield in his finest game since being elevated to the seniors from Under 18 ranks in round 10.
His brother Tyler was also prominent for Inglewood, with both players still eligible for the juniors.
High-flying Ben Morgan returned at centre half-forward, but fellow key attacker Dan Godden was absent.
Calivil has a chance to play spoiler this week when it meets Macorna, which is battling with Maiden Gully for the last spot in the finals.
