Old stage hands ‘are here again’
It was a historic night of deep belly laughs at the 70th Mothers’ Club Concert in Wedderburn on Friday night.

A talented cast of 19 performers took to the stage, including the highly-anticipated return of Chris Tonkin (Dame Edna Everage) as the evening’s compere.
The cast’s ages spanned approximately 50 years, but a special performance stretched this even further, as 13 past performers were called to the stage to sing a Mothers Club Concert classic. The eldest was June Ring, 94.
They sang Here We Are Again, a song written by Vida and Betty Matthews. Margaret Matthews and Amy Roberts were in front row seats - both performed in the concert 69 years ago.
Also in the audience were Betty Jackel, 90, and Glenda Hunter, who had performed the Goat Herder with Vida Matthews at the 50th Concert.
Friday’s concert was Annette Hunt’s 30th consecutive performance in the show.
Mothers and daughters took to the stage together with Sharyn Lockhart performing with daughters Grace and Aliza and Alex Holt performing with daughter Maddison. Alex’s mother Wendy (Maddison’s grandmother) also performed on the night for the Here We Are Again special.
The concert was attended by more than 200 people.
The parents association event raised $3700, to be reinvested in Wedderburn College students. Spanning over 70 years, it is estimated that the concert has raised over $100,000 for local students.
