Old mine site cleared of rust and rubbish
VOLUNTEERS from the Prospectors and Miners Association Victoria have filled two large trailers with rubbish dumped at a historic mining site.

The team of 20 last weekend cleared accumulated rusty tins and other rubbish at the Great Sandstone Mine on the outskirts of Llanelly.
Local PMAV member Maryanne Murdoch said the working bee had been triggered after resident John Strachan contacted Loddon Shire with concerns about the rubbish at the mine last worked more than a century ago.
There were then discussions with Parks Victoria who contacted PMAV’s Bendigo co-ordinator Greta Raadsveld.
“We filled two trailers with rubbish that had accumulated over time - all 20 of us plus a couple of staff from Parks Victoria,” Maryanne said.
“Greta had put the call out and the response was amazing. And the result is a historic mining site looking care for.”
Maryanne said the Great Sandstone Mine was an important part of the region’s rich goldfields history.
