Old activists finally meet
GARY Murray and Laurie Levy met each other for the first time at Friday’s opening of the Yung Balug Aboriginal Artefacts Museum.

GARY Murray and Laurie Levy met each other for the first time at Friday’s opening of the Yung Balug Aboriginal Artefacts Museum.
Gary, the First Peoples’ Assembly member and Aboriginal rights activist was among indigenous community members at the ceremony.
Laurie Levy, the long-time anti-duck hunting crusader, was in Boort for the second time in three months.
When the two caught up after Gary’s daughter and assembly co-chair had cut the ribbon, both said they were finally pleased to meet in person.
Both called for cultural and nature tourism in the district to replace duck hunting.
They said a switch would inject more money in the Boort economy.
“This area is culturally significant and (that’s why) I have concerns for duck shooting,” Mr Murray said.
Mr Levy said Lake Boort could be developed as a destination to rival Philip Island and its famous penguin parade.
