Sign of mount’s height correction
1 min read

NEW signs pointing to Mount Korong have the granite outcrop rising an extra 50 metres.
But after years of being 364 metres above sea level that all changed last month when Loddon Herald reader Bill Freeman spotting a a different sign when travelling the Calder Highway.
However Loddon Shire operations director Steve Phillips has come up with the answer: “When the sign was identified for replacement, a check of the height data was carried out and it was found to be incorrect according to the Survey Marks Enquiry Service, a Department of Energy, Environment and Climate Action website.
“This State Government website has Mount Korong listed as 423 meters Australian Height Datum.”
“Therefore, when council’s regular asset inspections revealed the Mount Korong sign needed to be replaced, new signage included the corrected height of Mount Korong at 423 metres altitude.”
