MEMBERS of Pyramid Hill Progress Association had their call for help answered on Sunday morning when residents came to assist new supermarket owner Mandeep Singh with a cleanup of the building and yard.
Mandeep last week took over the business in the historic former Pyramid Hill Co-operative building that opened in 1932, replacing the original building destroyed by fire the previous year.
The town working bee saw windows cleaned inside and out, junk removed from the yard and more work inside the supermarket.
Mandeep came to Australia from India in 2006, first settling in Perth before heading to Melbourne.
“I had been looking for the opportunity to take on a store and am pleased to now have the big supermarket building in the wonderful town of Pyramid Hill,” Mandeep said.
“My plan at the moment is to get the store going well and stock what residents and customers want. If they ask for something, and it’s not already on the stock list, I will get it in as soon as possible.”
Mandeep officially took over the store last Thursday with suppliers beginning deliveries. The liquor licence transfer process has started.
“Thanks to all members of progress association and other local members who helped me cleanup the yard and dispose of rubbish,” he said.
