WOOD chopping royalty came to Rheola for the 153rd Charity Carnival.

WOOD chopping royalty came to Rheola for the 153rd Charity Carnival.
Steven Newcombe, from Colac, comes from a family of outstanding axemen, and he took out the day’s main event, the Ken Sutton Memorial Underhand Championship.
Newcombe comfortably beat a strong field of five to win the trophy and a $300 prize.
The trophy was donated by David and Sue Coffey, another family with deep roots in competitive wood chopping.
Born and bred in Inglewood, the Coffey dynasty includes world champion Matt and rising star Blake, who were competing at the Sydney Royal Easter Show at the weekend.
Trentham youngster AJ Ryrie won the Under 18 handicap event shortly after winning the 70m sprint handicap.
