RIPON is notionally Labor’s eighth safest seat, according to new data released by the Victorian Electoral Commission this week.

The seat, held for the Liberals by Coalition frontbencher Louise Staley, has had its boundaries redrawn for the November state election.

Charlton and Donald areas have been moved into the Mildura electorate while the southern Loddon towns of Wedderburn, Inglewood, Bridgewater, Tarnagulla and Newbridge remain in Ripon along with Dunolly.

The VEC says the redistribution has Ripon with a notional Labor margin of 2.8 per cent compared with Ms Staley’s slender 0.2 per cent buffer after the 2018 election.

When Ripon was re-created for the 1976 election, it was also notionally Labor but won by the Liberals’ Tom Austin.

Labor’s candidate for Ripon this election is Martha Haylett who now lives at Creswick.

The VEC data shows the Nationals leader Peter Walsh holds the safest Coalition seat in the state, Murray Plains, including Boort, Pyramid Hill and Mitiamo, has a margin of 24 per cent.

Deputy Premier Jacinta Allan’s seat of Bendigo East has a margin for Labor of 12.1 per cent.

Neither Murray Plains or Bendigo East boundaries have changed.

Less than 100 days until early voting in the state poll, Ms Haylett is the only confirmed candidate challenging a sitting member in the Loddon. The Liberal Party has yet to name a candidate in Bendigo East.

The VEC analysed the 2018 State election results data against the new electoral boundaries to determine new seat margins.

Meanwhile in the Upper House, Animal Justice Party has endorsed Georgie Purcell as its lead candidate in Northern Victoria Region. She is an advocate for banning duck shooting and jumps racing and works as chief of staff to Animal Justice Party MP Andy Meddick who campaigned against aborted plans for a kangaroo pet meat processing plant at Inglewood.

The state election will be on November 26.
