Museum visits turn over new leaf
MORE tourists are visiting Inglewood’s Eucalyptus Distillery Museum in a boost to Loddon tourism.

MORE tourists are visiting Inglewood’s Eucalyptus Distillery Museum in a boost to Loddon tourism.
The first full financial year of the volunteer committee running the heritage attraction has seen more than 3000 people discover the district’s key role in the eucalyptus oil industry.
“We’ve just tallied the numbers for the 12 months to June and they have shown a pleasing increase,” said secretary Murray Baud.
“Longer and more regular opening hours under the volunteer model have certainly played a part in attracting people to the museum, whether on their original itinerary through Loddon or simply stopping on their way along the Calder Highway,
“We’re also starting to see the return of groups visiting the museum, learning about the eucalyptus distillery process.”
Mr Baud said last October’s inaugural Eucalyptus Art Show had been another boost to awareness and visitation at the museum.
“The art show and competition will be back again this October when prizemoney of $5000 will be on offer,” he said.
“The museum features a unique collection of historic items, including old tools, oil bottles, artworks, news cuttings, photographs, and other paraphernalia from the local industry dating back to the 1800s. Among these treasures is the heritage-listed ‘Old Jones’ Distillery, a notable eucalyptus distillery established in 1890.”
It is also one of seven tourist welcome shops in the shire.
