Middle order runs fast with batting party

SIX PLAYERS retired not out as Boort Yando juniors compiled 4-148 on the first day of their two-day match against Kingower.

Steady batting from Jacob Malone (18 retired not out from 104 balls) and Cooper Gooding (33 retired not out from 54 deliveries) gave way to a middle-order run spree from the Magpies.

Both Jake O’Flaherty (29 off 29 balls) and Brodie McPherson (20 off 15) were among those to retire without being dismissed as the scoring rate lifted.

Unbeaten in two seasons, Boort Yando’s total gives them a substantial score to defend next Saturday. Four bowlers took a wicket apiece for Kingower, with Flynn Lonza’s 1-12 from 8.2 overs a standout.

Morgan Lonza didn’t claim a wicket, but his 10 overs went for just 15 runs as the accurate early bowling made scoring difficult. Ryder Smith (1-24 from 10 overs), Matilda Rose (1-18 from three) and Jamie Penrose (1-20 from three) were the other bowlers to take a scalp.

BRIDGEWATER Bulls battled to 113 off 43.2 overs in their clash with Wedderburn Band.

The two bottom sides on the ladder met on Wedderburn’s turf wicket, with the Bulls batting steadily throughout. Captain Connor Alexander and Nate Harrison top-scored with 19 each as five Bridgewater batsmen made double figures.

However, the failure of anyone to go on to a big score will give the winless Band encouragement as they chase the target next Saturday.

Zane Polkinghorne was outstanding with the ball for Wedderburn, taking 3-22 from 10 overs.

Nate Turnbull kept it exceptionally tight with his return of 2-8 from 6.2 overs, including three maidens, in a good performance.
