Memories detected in garden decluttering
RELICS from Inglewood’s past have been unearthed during the local Landcare group’s working bees at the town’s botanical gardens

One of the volunteers, Maryanne Murdoch, swept her coin and metal detector over ground as weeds and scrub cluttering the gardens has been cleared.
Maryanne said a locket, old belt buckles and other metal treasures discarded around a man-made pond had sent the detector beeping. “I haven’t found any coins ... or gold though,” said Maryanne who has donated her finds to the local historical society where she hopes the history of some items can be discovered.
The original gardens were established in 1864 and the Landcare group under Katie Gillett Drummond’s leadership is developing plans to bring new life to the historic area.
The next working bee is on February 15.
