WEDDERBURN shrugged off a lack of recent matches to continue its unbeaten A Grade season in North Central with a 19-goal win over Charlton.

The bottom-placed Navy Blues put up a great fight against the Redbacks but couldn’t sustain a four-quarter performance.

Their effort was highlighted by the first term, which saw them trailing only by three goals against the runaway competition leaders.

League-wide byes and the withdrawal of St Arnaud from the top grade this season meant Wedderburn had only played twice in the past four weeks.

Coach Meg Lowry praised her side’s defenders as well as speedy centre Kelsey Pallpratt, last season’s league best and fairest player.

“She played a really full four quarters of netball – she’s just so consistent and you know she is always going to work hard throughout.”

Wedderburn is two games ahead of second-placed Birchip Watchem coming into the last bye for the year, with the two teams set to meet at Donaldson Park when matches resume.
