MARGARET Mitchell has celebrated an extraordinary milestone, with family and friends set to gather to mark her 100th birthday and a lifetime deeply connected to the local district. Known and respected throughout the Boort community, Margaret has spent much of her life building friendships and connections that stretch across generations. While reaching 100 years of age is a remarkable achievement, Margaret remains characteristically modest about the occasion. Asked how it feels to be approaching her century milestone, she simply smiled and admitted she was “not really sure”. Family members say Margaret continues to amaze those around her with her positive outlook, warm nature and ability to still get around so well at almost 100 years of age. “She’s marvellous,” family members proudly said. Despite the milestone, Margaret still enjoys the simple things - chatting about familiar local names, sharing memories of the district and spending time with those closest to her. Her connection to the Boort district remains as strong as ever, with family saying she still recalls many stories and people from years gone by. When asked the secret to a long life, Margaret laughed and said she did not really have an answer, preferring instead to quietly enjoy the moment and the company of family and friends. Family, community and staying active have always been central to Margaret’s life, and her sharp memory and gentle sense of humour continue to shine through in conversation. For her family, the milestone is about far more than simply turning 100.
