POLICE remain on the scene of a fatal smash at Serpentine this morning with the Echuca-Serpentine Road closed.

A man died at the scene after a light truck left the road and hit a tree near Stuarts Road about 9am.

Marong SES arrived soon after 11am and were assisting police at the scene.

In a statement this afternoon, police said:

It’s understood a utility crashed into a tree on Serpentine-Echuca Road just before 9am.

The driver, and sole occupant of the vehicle, a, 18-year-old Deniliquin man, died at the scene.

The exact circumstances surrounding the crash are yet to be determined and investigations are ongoing.

  • Officers returning from this crash detected a vehicle travelling at 176kmh on the Loddon Valley Highway in Woodvale. The driver had his vehicle impounded at a cost of $1200 and is expected to be charged on summon.
