SUBMISSIONS to the review of Victoria’s federal electorate boundaries have backed the status quo for Mallee.
The federal seat, that includes the Loddon Shire and stretches from Mildura to Maryborough, is held for the Nationals by Anne Webster.
Submissions released by the Australian Electoral Commission last week show only one person wants a change.
That submission calls for the Loddon Shire to be moved into the seat of Nicholls centred on Shepparton.
The AEC said it was accepting comment on new boundary suggestions until tomorrow with a report on proposed electorate names and boundaries released next year.
Victoria will lose one seat in the redistribution, reducing the state’s number of members in the House of Representatives to 38.
The commission is also reviewing boundaries in New South Wales and Western Australia, where an extra seat will be established, ahead of the next federal election due in May 2025.
Meanwhile, the review of internal Loddon Shire ward boundaries is expected to start next month and be completed before next October’s elections.
