MAYOR Dan Straub wants Victoria’s political leaders to visit Loddon Shire and the state’s other 78 municipalities before November’s election.
MAYOR Dan Straub wants Victoria’s political leaders to visit Loddon Shire and the state’s other 78 municipalities before November’s election.
Cr Straub said leader visit blitzes to Victoria’s 88 lower house seats could see Loddon and other smaller councils “slipping through the cracks and party leaders not getting a real understanding of what’s happening in rural communities”.
He said the Loddon Shire was split across four seats.
“A visit to the seat of Bendigo East might be good for Bendigo but means nothing for people in Serpentine and Dingee,” he said.
“The same for dropping in on the outer suburbs of Ballarat that are in Ripon - totally different communities to our towns of Inglewood, Wedderburn, Bridgewater, Tarnagulla and Newbridge.”:
“Our council has put together an advocacy document for the shire and towns. It would be great to have party leaders visit us instead of having to go cap in hand to the regional capitals or Melbourne.”
Opposition leader Jess Wilson this week launched a campaign blitz to visit each of the state’s 88 seats.
