It was the seventh time the Calivil stud of John and Rosemary Humbert had taken out the prize in the competition’s 23-year history.

Kedleston Park last won the award in 2020 and 2021 and Friday’s success follows national success last year with Australia’s champion fleece.

Judge Warren McRae said some of Australia’s best sheep had been on display at the field day.

He said the top rams displayed good balanced growth and wool.

Terrick West, winner of the pen of three rams for the previous two years, was second and Everton Stud (Nhill) third

Warren and son Jack also judged the pen of three ewes, awarding the top prize Terrick West with Kedleston Park second and Kamarooka Park third.

Again, the judges said ewes had show a good even wool type with good growth.

The fleece competition was won by Bruce Dean (Forest Springs, Joel Joel) with his 19.5 micron entry that had been shorn three years ago.

Across the judging criteria, Bruce lost just two points from judge Andrew Partridge of Australian Wool Exchange.
