Lonza, Smith rip through top order

AT 3-10, the all-conquering Boort Yando junior cricket side looked at serious risk of losing its first match in two seasons.
Its top order was decimated, including star batsman Cooper Gooding out for just three as Kingower’s Ryder Smith and Morgan Lonza cut a swathe through the Magpies in the first four overs.
But good sides don’t give up easily, and Luke Boyd and Jake O’Flaherty put on 46 for the fourth wicket as Boort Yando recovered to compile 7-117 from 28 overs.
O’Flaherty retired not out on 30, Sam McCelland also retired unbeaten on 17 from 18 balls, while Finlay Arnold finished 14 not out at the end of the innings.
Smith clean bowled both of the openers in snaring 2-13 from five overs, and Lonza took 1-4 from his tight four overs, with Gooding his victim.
Matilda Rose took 1-8 from two overs, and Edmund Wilson captured 1-2.
When Kingower came to bat only Lonza could get on top of the bowling, making 30 retired not out from 49 deliveries.
No one else made double figures, with Ryder Leach retiring not out on six after a patient 59-ball knock, and only two wickets falling to the bowlers as Kingower battled to 2-68 from 28 overs.
Four of its players retired not out, with Jacob Malone (1-6) and Owen Byrne (1-0 off three maiden overs) the wicket takers.
The Magpies are on top of the ladder with two wins, with Kingower in second place.
Round three will see Boort Yando at home to Wedderburn Band, and Bridgewater Bulls hosting Kingower.
