Local members of Parliament are paying tribute to Queen Elizabeth who died aged 96 overnight (Australian time) and local flags are being flown at half-mast including at Korong Vale fire station.
Member for Mallee Anne Webster said: "Queen Elizabeth II was our longest serving Monarch and brought stability throughout her reign, despite significant turbulence and change. She became Queen in 1952, and pledged on that day that she would dedicate her life to serve the Commonwealth. She was absolutely successful in this endeavour. We celebrated her Platinum Jubilee this year ... Queen Elizabeth II was and will continue to be held in respect and deep affection by her nation, the people of the Commonwealth, and indeed all people around the world. She leaves a legacy of dignity, service, faith, stability, sacrifice and strength. Rest In Peace."
State member for Ripon Louise Staley has described the Queen's passing as "the end of the great second Elizabethan age". "I am deeply saddened to learn of Her Majesty's death this morning. Prior to her ascension to the throne she said 'whether my life be long or short I will dedicate it to the service of the Commonwealth'. The Queen served Australia and the Commonwealth with dignity and commitment for over 70 years."

"It will be there for the next two weeks, after which I will forward it to Buckingham Palace as a message of sympathy and support for the Royal family. I invite anyone, from anywhere, to please drop in between 9am and 4.30pm and leave a message of sympathy at this time of great loss."
Labor candidate for Ripon Martha Haylett said: "Queen Elizabeth II lived an extraordinary life of service to her country and the Commonwealth. - It is hard to imagine a world where she is no longer a constant." Ms Haylett said she had suspended campaigning.
