Member for Bendigo East Jacinta Allan was this afternoon elected the new Victorian Labor Party leader.

She is expected to be sworn in as the new premier shortly.

Ms Allan has held the seat of Bendigo East since 1999 and the electorate currently includes Loddon communities of Serpentine and Dingee.

She has been a minster in the Bracks, Brumby and Andrews governments and became deputy premier last year.

Daniel Andrews, premier for the last nine years, resigned yesterday.
