THE Loddon’s oldest resident Lloyd Mills has died at age 102.
The country cricket legend and World War Two veteran passed away in his sleep at his Mincha home last Thursday night.
Lloyd had celebrated his 102nd birthday in January, reflecting on his life as a farmer, cricketer and soldier.
It was only five years ago that Lloyd stopped driving but still read newspapers without glasses and was not on medication.
He had outlived his siblings. Twin brother Richard died of a brain tumour aged 10, Bruce of cancer aged 43 and elder sister Jean lived to 98.
“I’ve still got the shrapnel in the leg, I was blown off my feet. I was at the rear with a machine gun,” Lloyd said of his war service.
“I’ve never smoked ... even those years in the Army I never smoked,” he said.
Lloyd has been farewelled at a private service.
With Lloyd’s passing, Pyramid Hill’s Ivan Vanderwall, 101, is the Loddon’s oldest living resident.
