EAST Loddon Lions Club had given outstanding support to district communities, district governor Neil Stewart said at the club’s 40th anniversary celebrations on Sunday.

Mr Stewart said the memorial garden being developed by the club was the latest example of service by members.

Loddon Mayor and club member Cr Dan Straub joined Mr Stewart in unveiling the garden stone and the adjacent metal leaf sculpture. Cr Straub crafted the sculpture.

Sundays celebrations also saw the official unveiling of the Lions Den mural. Joining the club’s current members Cr Straub, president Alan Guthrie, Jo Guthrie, Helen O’Donohue, Emma Leach and Sharyl McCallum were guests with connections to the club over four decades.

They included Rosalie McCarthy whose late husband Kevin was an early president and Susan Rudkins whose father Tom was a driving force in the club’s foundation and its charter secretary.

Artwork by East Loddon P12 College students was also on display.
