COMMUNITY spirit and school resilience were celebrated when 11 East Loddon P12 College students made their debut in the middle of a power blackout on Friday night.
The students had seen the 2021 debutante ball cancelled by COVID restrictions and lockdowns.
And then on dusk last Friday, electricity was lost across a large area between Pyramid Hill and Bendigo, plunging the college’s gymnasium into darkness.
The school community then stepped in with candles, torches and generators.
Michael Hocking left grain uncovered in his truck to deliver a generator at short notice and Alan and Jo Guthrie, of the East Loddon Lions Club, delivered another powerful generator.
