THE jokes, puns and witty sayings have flowed freely from Bradley of Boort this year and posted to the Treemendous Tree. And he has not disappointed in the week of Christmas where that love of jokes has been proclaimed. Here at OTF, we think Bradley’s favourite part of Christmas Day must be popping the crackers and reading the jokes that he neatly stockpiles for possible future use on the roadside sign.
THERE’S been a burning question in local sporting circles this week? What do lawn bowlers do for the 12 days of Christmas? Many of them are known to take to the green up to five days a week between pennant, tournaments and, as if they need it, practice. Scallywaggs have said they use family over Christmas to practice new recipes before trotting them out on the afternoon tea tables at their local club.
GOOD old-fashioned country fare - sponges, slices and precisely tapered and cut three-point sandwiches are the offering from the local kitchen whizzes. Unlike Queensland where the club claiming to be the Sunshine State’s oldest, The Boo, has ditched the scones of Lady Flo for “providing fabulous contemporary food in a fun and friendly atmosphere”.
The Boo, aka Booroodabin Bowling Club, even once had a function with none other than Lord Lamington in attendance. He’s probably been ditched from the Boo’s menu but have no fear, his namesake cake treat still pops up around the Loddon.
FROM Boo to ho-ho. OTF has received a report on the loss of a “representative ho ho” when one mower operator was out last week, neatly manicuring a green grass patch ready for the arrival of Christmas guests. Wind had dislodged the toy Santa from his sedentary position and became victim to the turf mulcher.
THE poor chap won’t be around if ever there is an attempt to beat the world record for the biggest Christmas light display. Back in 2014, in Canberra (not Queensland where they like to have the big everythings), a record was set with 1.2 million LED lights running for 120km.
FINALLY, when you’re resting on Boxing Day, think of Santa still on the job - apparently that’s when he takes presents to the animals.
FROM OTF, Merry Christmas and we look forward to hearing of your festival antics.
