AFTER 46 balls in Saturday’s T20 between Arnold and Wedderburn Band, the visitors were 7-26, and a very early afternoon was on the cards.

Tom Metherell had just been dismissed for 10 runs from nine balls faced – comfortably the best effort with the bat to that point.

The Band was 4-3 when Isaac Holt was dismissed for one run, having seen the other Holt boys Luke and Will fall for ducks. That became 5-9 until a recovery of sorts took the score to 6-22, shortly before Metherell fell.

Veteran Steve Giorlando was in, joined by Beau Hartnell, and they put together a decent partnership of 29 runs, with Hartnell’s 24 not out off 27 crucial in dragging the Band to 61 all out off 17.5 overs.

Just two boundaries were struck for the innings on the Arnold deck.

Michael Dale and Ryan Metelmann were the destroyers, with Dale taking 4-7 from four overs, and Metelmann 3-6 from his 2.5 overs.

It looked a pretty simple batting task for the Redbacks, and they were already halfway to the target when Metelmann was second out after a well-compiled 22 off 27 balls.

But that precipitated a collapse of 6-15 as the Band’s bowlers fought back.

It took a late burst of hitting from Adam Davies, who hit 14 runs off 13 deliveries and was not out at the end, to get Arnold over the line with an over to spare.

Giorlando took 2-8 from three tight overs.
