THE UPGRADE of Pyramid Hill’s Lions Park started last week and local club members are relieved the Ern Ferris memorial drinking fountain will be retained.
The new park format under Loddon Shire’s streetscape revitalisation project will see the picnic shelter erected by the Lions club also retained but the swing removed.
“It’s a shame the swings are going,” said club members Bill and Tania Quinn.
Bill said the park had evolved from the club demolishing an old shop on the site and becoming local custodians of the block. Bill and Tania also hope 2011 flood interpretive boards would be returned when the project is completed.
Council said the works at Lions Park would involve the replacement of the concrete path to and around the shelter, replacement of garden beds, planting of trees and shrubs, and a new path around Lions Park.
The works also include new seating with shade trees, while the swing set will be replaced with an open lawn space area.
A new Colorbond fence, replacing the old fence, will include portholes for children to be able to look through at the trains.
Council said works were part of the overall Pyramid Hill Streetscape Revitalisation Project funded by council and an $800,000 Victorian Government grant.
