Kim Lomax wrote: The Loddon Shire’s recently commissioned Lake Boort Scarred Tree Masterplan outlines the significant potential economic benefits to the local community through increased visitation rates to Lake Boort through cultural tourism. The cost benefit analysis found a significant monetised return from increased visitation, but that one of the main factors that could discourage high visitation levels was duck hunting. The report also noted that Lake Boort is considered one of the most significant Aboriginal cultural sites in Australia. The application made by Mr Murray outlines the nature of the desecration to these nationally significant sites by shooters. There is both Commonwealth and State legislation that protects such places. If the state fails to adequately protect such sites then Mr Murray is well within his rights to seek Commonwealth protection as a last resort.

If cultural tourism works for Boort great and it should be able to coexist with duct shooting. Duck hunting has a long history with the Boort area, my hunting group of about 12 always hunts the Boort area every year you have water in the wetlands, we visit town many times spending money at the IGA, the hardware, the servo and of course a bit of money at the pub. In fact I was there yesterday looking at the hunting conditions for this upcoming season, our money is garanteed.
