Keeping water up to the vegies
INGLEWOOD residents being rallied to keep their community garden growing vegetables that can be picked at their convenience.

The garden, at Inglewood and Districts Health Service, has been without a permanent unofficial caretaker since the passing of Howard Rochester.
Howard’s daily routine included watering the vegetable beds and Faye Orange has started to assemble a team to continue his work.
“The garden is a wonderful asset to our community and IDHS has been full of encouragement for us to continue to maintain the garden, see that it is watered and vegetables are grown that people can come and pick,” said Faye.
She said one of the first tasks was to have a watering roster.
“Particularly during these warmer days, we need to make sure the garden is well watered so the vegetables don;t wither buit maintain their nutrients,” she said. “Since putting the word around. we’ve had a a few people step forward.
“Some of this are among the great volunteers at the ambulance op-shop, others just want to continue the work of Howard and have a great and green garden.”
Faye said people who went for regular walks might consider joining the team and including time at the garden in their routine. “The garden, like walking, promotes healthy lifestyles.”
