Ruck/forward Shaun McKernan played his first match for the Eagles alongside co-coach Angus Monfries, both of them ex-Bombers.
Between them they kicked five goals, with Maiden Gully’s firepower proving too strong for the outgunned Demons.
Once again, a poor first quarter from Calivil left the team playing catch up footy for the rest of the game.
It has been a constant refrain this season, and something coach Sam Maher has worked feverishly to overcome, but unless the repeated slow starts come to an end, the Demons will have a long season ahead of them.
Against the Eagles, Calivil’s 1.0 paled in comparison to 4.5 in the first quarter, and by half-time the margin was 50 points.
In another consistent feature of the Demons’ season, the second half was a genuine contest, with Calivil matching the Eagles on field and on the scoreboard.
Maiden Gully now have the task of travelling to take on Macorna this weekend, while Calivil will square up against Mitiamo in a home game match.
