KAREN Twigg has been awarded the prestige biennial Serle Award for the best thesis on Australian history.
Karen, who attended East Loddon P12 College in the 1970s and grew up at Bears Lagoon, received the Australian History Association award for her thesis An Environmental History of a Mallee Community.
“The thesis more broadly looks at the difficulties confronting farmers grappling with how to balance the well-being of their soil, family and community with their own future survival,” Karen said.
“Hopefully written in an engaging way, it tells real people’s stories and helps others imagine what the stuggle is like on a daily basis for farmers.”
