MAJOR accolades have been won by Loddon Valley’s Merino studs at the Australian Sheep and Wool Show.

Calivil’s Kedleston Park has brought home the grand champion March-shorn fine wool ram title - the stud’s first broad ribbon in more than 20 years attending the show in Bendigo and 12 months after taking out the top fleece.

And Norm Weir, of Kerrilyn Merinos, Dunluce, took out his first-ever Victorian fleece championship.

With an average mean micron of 19.5, the Kerrilyn clip was among the heaviest in the national fleece competition celebrating its 25th year.

Kedleston Park principal John Humbert’s grandson Reid Musgrove, 17, took the ram onto the judging mat while Mr Humbert was further along the Bendigo Exhibition Centre handling another of the the stud’s show rams in another section of the competition.

“(The ram) wasn’t happy when he first got here but once on the mat he chilled and won,” said Reid.

Mr Humbert said he had planned to offer the ram for sale at the stud’s annual on-property auction next month.

“I will have to think about that again now,” said Mr Humbert who described the 14-month-old ram as having “all the attributes - structure,
