Junction conquers rivals on spongey courts
WEDDERBURN Junction has won the Inglewood Tennis Association premiership with a hard-fought win over local rivals Fentons Creek.

Junction took out the grand final, played at Wedderburn Tennis Club, 118-102.
Captain Sarah Turnbull claimed the trophy for her team after Junction came home strongly in the mixed doubles.
Earlier the men’s sets had ended 4-2 in Wedderburn Junction’s favour, while the ladies’ sets had been a 3-3 split.
The mixed event saw the margin blow out late in the contest, with Fentons Creek winning only two of the sets.
There were some big wins on the day, with the courts slow and a little spongy after significant overnight and morning rain.
Junction’s Meg Lowry and Maddi Postle beat Aliza and Emma Lockhart 8-1 in the ladies’ doubles.
Oscar Holt and Emma Lockhart returned the favour with an 8-1 win over Lowry and Tim Lockhart in the mixed doubles. However, Paul Turnbull combined with Postle for another 8-1 result over Fentons Creek’s Sam and Aliza Lockhart.
Players from Korong Vale, which missed the grand final, played some friendly matches on the courts while the grand final was in progress.
