Jenny has owned Wedderburn Fish and Chips for six year but worked at the business for 45 years.

“Apart from a 12-month break when my family was young, I’ve worked every Friday night and every weekend,” Jenny said.

“The time’s right to sell the shop and retire.”

Jenny said she hoped to have her “weekend’s back” in the next few months.

“I’ve enjoyed every day and every moment ... Friday nights are always busy with people coming in for their fish and chips, usually the same order week in and week out,” she said.

“Of course, in recent years, there have also been pizzas that have given customers another option for a quick and relaxing meal on Friday night or on Saturdays after a game of sport.”

When Jenny started work at the HIgh Street shop, her wage was $7 an hour and the owner was Nick Isihos.

But within a year, there had been major disruption to the shop when it was bombed in June 1982.

Nick had been sleeping at the rear of the shop when a mystery blast ripped through the building but escaped uninjured.

The blast sprayed glass and debris across the street.

Witnesses said the explosion was heard across town.

Mr Isihos later said he had to break down two doors to escape flames after the 4am blast.

“I tried to get through the shop but the flames were too big and everything was falling down around me.”

The June explosion was the second on High Street after the Ken Hicks’ bakery went up in flames in April 1982.

Mr Isihos had the shop rebuilt and Jenny’s journey with the man she describes as “the best of the bosses I had at the fish shop” continued.

“Over these last 45 years, I worked for six different owners before buying the business myself,” she said.

For many years, the shop traded as Central Cafe but Jenny chose to call it Wedderburn Fish and Chips.

Jenny has employed part-time staff to meet demand over the busy weekend and holiday periods

Selling agent Greg Fathers said the property included a comfortable two-bedroom residence attached to the shop. The residence features a large lounge with freestanding wood heater, office nook, combined bathroom/laundry and built-in robes to both bedrooms.
