PYRAMID Hill’s James Ritchie considers himself lucky to have won the A Grade championship but is also pleased to have shaken off role of bridesmaid in the premier event.

James had previously won the nett award in the championships but never the main trophy.

“I’ve always been the bridesmaid. A couple of players left the door open this year for me when they didn’t compete,” James said.

The new champion has been playing since he was aged nine and as a youngster would accompany father Ron around the course.

James said he was pleased to have put in three solid rounds during the championship.

“The (weather) conditions for the final round were a big improvement from the previous weeks when it was pouring rain,” he said.

James is now hoping he can continue that winning form into the club’s annual tournament next month.

Last year’s tournament was eventually cancelled because of lockdowns.
