Wedderburn Historical Records Museum and Wedderburn College last week unveiled the board after realising during last years 160 years of education celebrations that there was no permanent record of past principals and headmasters.
Museum secretary Alan Mulraney and president Darryl Arnott had contributed to the new edition of the college’s cook book The Golden Spoon.
The task was to produce a short history of the development of education in Wedderburn since it the first school was established in 1865.
They also took on the task and subsequently produced an eight page summary of the educational developments that led up to the excellent college that the town has today.
While researching the project, Alan said he had hoped to locate honor boards that listed the past headmasters and principals of the school/college over the years to assist with his research.
“Sadly, I discovered that there weren’t any such honor boards in existence,” he said. “At a subsequent Historical Records Museum meeting it was agreed by the members that it would be a good gesture to develop and donate such an honor board to the college.
“That’s when I started work on collating all of the relevant records.
“The museum’s historical database provided a comprehensive list of all headmasters up to the late 1960s, but after that, there were no further records.
“Fortunately, the historical database now in excess of 140,000 records provides copies of the school/college magazine Jumbunna from its first edition in 1966 through to the current year.
“From this magazine, I was able to compile a list of all headmasters and principals from 1966 onwards.
“A digital representation was then created and after some alterations and corrections by current principal Danny Forrest and myself, a final draft was produced and sent to the signwriter.
“With the help community grant funding from the Loddon Shire, the honor board was produced and presented to the college in the presence of the entire student assembly and most of the Historical Records Museum members.”
Mr Forrest thanked members for their research and donation of the honour board. “It keeps our history alive and in front of future generations.”
