Hundreds turn out for an 80th time
SERPENTINE has marked the 80th anniversary of its community Christmas Tree with parents relaxing under umbrellas and children immediately playing with their latest presents from Santa.

The town’s tennis club took its turn this year organising the event at Janiember Park attended by more than 200 people.
Organiser Sarah Gladman said success of the Christmas gathering showed the spirit of the community and the support from sponsors.
Santa arrived courtesy of the Serpentine Fire Brigade and called out the names of children to receive gifts as balloons that had taken their attention were waved in the air, some being popped in the excitement.
Brian Gladman read a diary excerpt from 1945, the first record the town’s unofficial historian could find of the community coming together at Christmas.
