Houses work around car rego rebate snub
NEIGHBOURHOOD houses are diverting resources to help people claim the State Government’s car registration rebate before July 31.
NEIGHBOURHOOD houses are diverting resources to help people claim the State Government’s car registration rebate before July 31.
Wedderburn Community Centre manager Louise Cook said the Government had rejected a proposal for neighbourhood houses to be a partner delivering access to the rebate.
“We’ve been able to find room within our budget and resourcing to devote a few hours each week to helping people,” she said. “The Government rejected our proposal from community houses saying there was no funding available to assist community members who face challenges with digital access.”
She said neighbourhood houses had also started a petition to have the Government recognise their role in guiding people through the rebate process that can only be made on the Services Victoria app.
Members of Parliament offices are also assisting people access the rebate.
Louise said it was unfair that local access to rebate assistance was not part of the rollout.
