They raced to an 11-goal lead in the first quarter and increased the margin at every change for a 62-26 win.
Holly Lockhart was unstoppable as goal shooter, with Paige Ryan dominant in the centre and last season’s league best and fairest player Kelsey Pallpratt playing wing defence.
Coach Meg Lowry said Lockhart had been moving well and using her exceptional vertical leap to advantage in her attacking role.
Pallpratt’s versatility was tested with Lowry placing her in a new position, but she rose to the challenge.
Lowry is facing her own challenge – having to manage a deep senior squad where all of the B Grade players are capable at A Grade level.
“There’s no rush, and we can afford to be flexible,” she said.
While Lowry acknowledged it was sometimes frustrating for players not chosen for the A Grade team “they are still playing a great standard of netball”.
BOORT, surprisingly beaten in round one by Donald, was back in form with a 10-goal victory against last season’s grand finalists Sea Lake Nandaly.
The Tigers held a slender lead for most of the first half before the Magpies turned the game with a 14-8 third quarter, leading to a 10-goal win.
Having struggled with the conditions on Donald’s indoor courts, the Boort players were happy to be outdoors again on a beautiful autumn day.
Pies’ coach Carly Isaac said goalshooter Steph Wilson put in a stunner getting the team ticking over `the scoreboard. “A real standout for us,” said Isaac.
It was a successful day across the board for the Magpies, with only B Grade losing its match.
The Under 14A team has had a stunning start to the season, beating the Tigers 30-0 after a 31-1 win in the opening round.
