THIS week there is history in the making as our most northerly teams play each other for premiership points for the first time in 90 years. Macorna travels south across the Mincha Plains to do battle with Pyramid at the Kennel. I saw both play last week, with Pyramid shaking off a determined Bears outfit after a tight first half and Macorna struggling to get the four points against a Calivil side that kept the pressure on all day. The top of the table Bulldogs should be too strong for their northern neighbours in the battle for the Mincha Cup. Mitiamo hosts the Bears at John Forbes arena in a game that Serp needs to win to stay in touch with the pack of teams fighting for a finals position, so it’s the Bears for me this week. Newbridge is back at the tranquil Riverside Oval hosting their neighbours Inglewood in perhaps the game of the round. The Blues are starting to string some good wins together after a slow start to the season, and with Newbridge a lot more competitive than last year this should be a close game. The Blues – just – for me. Bridgewater hosts Calivil at Mean Machine headquarters and will chalk up another victory over the Demons, who will be out of their depth against a classy Bridgewater outfit. Maiden Gully will host the Panthers, who have to travel over the hill to get to Camel Hump arena. Marong should account for a disappointing Eagles side that has struggled to perform against the top sides this season.
