Historic hall given brick tuck, paint
THE 152-year-old Woodstock Hall has had a $40,000 restoration.

THE 152-year-old Woodstock Hall has had a $40,000 restoration.
Funds raised by the hall committee have been used on brick pointing, painting, floorboard and fascia replacement and improvements to lighting and security.
Jayden Kronk was putting the final brush strokes to window frames last week.
“My grandmother used to come to the balls here, so I am really pleased to be part of this project,” he said.
Hall committee secretary Irene Punton said the window frames had taken four coats of paint.
“They’ve been there since the hall was built in 1874, first used as the school, later a post office and from 1917 as the community hall,” she said.
“The school moved down the road in 1902, about 3km closer to Newbridge.”
“The Education Department granted permission for local residents to use the former school building as a community hall, a function that continues to this day.”
Mrs Punton said the hall was home to the Woodstock Tennis Club and Central Victorian Veterans’ Cycling Club.”
“Once a year, the Bendigo Dog Obedience Club comes here for training and uses the hall for its officials,” she said.
“And there are still other functions from time to time.”
Mrs Punton said the committee had faced challenges finding qualified and experienced heritage tradespeople for the project.
“But we did and were so pleased Jayden was one of the them,” she said.
“We also had to have powerlines lowered by Powercor while the fascia boards were replaced. We’re waiting for that bill and then everything has been paid.
“There are a few other improvements we would like to make so that will mean more community fundraising.”
The hall also displays the photographs and trophies of district sporting team successes over the years and war memorial honour boards
