Historian shares stories in time

THE rich history of Inglewood was to the fore on Tuesday when local historian Kevin Poyser was guest speaker at the Anglican Church’s coffee morning.
Kevin came armed with historic gold warden reports and a map of the area originally proposed for the Kurting township.
“Kurting was surveyed in 1865 but not where we know the locality to be today,” said Kevin. “It was originally planned for Rose Hill but with the arrival of the railway a decade or so later, the location of Kurting was moved closer to the line.”
Kevin has been a member of Inglewood Historical Society for more than 40 years.
“I first joined in 1984. I was living in Bridgewater at the time and wanted to learn more about the history of that town,” he said.
“Later I moved to Inglewood and started to learn about the history of Inglewood - from the finding of gold, the buildings and much more.
“Most people would not know there is an old Inglewood cemetery where no one over 45 was buried - many were children - as the goldfields attracted young people in those early years.
Tuesday’s talk was the latest in the regular series of coffee mornings organised by the church in Inglewood and Bridgewater.
