A SPARKLING innings from star junior Cooper Gooding has led Boort Yando’s senior side to a commanding win over Bridgewater Bulls.

Gooding made 68 not out from 75 deliveries, highlighted by seven fours and two sixes, as his team profited from being asked to bat first in compiling 6-161 from 35 overs.

Opener William Gould made a quickfire 22 from 24 balls, while Daniel Lehman’s steady 35 from 58 balls complemented Gooding’s knock.

Lewis Lonsdale, with 3-16 from his five overs, was clearly the Bulls’ best with the ball, with Harry Humphreys’ 2-34 providing good support.

Bridgewater, missing last season’s stars Harry and Tom McKinley, who are playing this season in Bendigo, was never in the hunt after slumping to 4-26.

The Bulls could only manage 78 off 32.4 overs, with only three players reaching double figures.

Captain Toby Naughton made 18 off 27 balls batting at number three, hitting 18 of a partnership of 20 with Lonsdale. However, when he fell it precipitated a crash of 3-3 from which Bridgewater couldn’t recover.

Boort Yando shared around the wickets, with Matt Hodoras taking 3-14 and Lehman 2-9 off seven overs in an excellent all-round performance.

The Magpies sit on top of the ladder with two wins from two, with Arnold and Kingower sitting at 1-1.

Both Wedderburn Band and Bridgewater have lost their only matches this season.
