NORTH CENTRAL hockey player Braydon Springthorpe has been released from hospital after an on-field accident.
Braydon was playing for Wedderburn Redbacks men’s team at Donaldson Park on Saturday when hit in the head during a clash of sticks.
Witness said Braydon connected with a stick as Wedderburn and St Arnaud players scambled to win control of the the ball.
Ambulances were called to Donaldson Park about 3.30pm and treated suspected head injuries to the 21-year-old Redbacks’ defender for more than an hour before he was transported to hospital. Football trainers and a St Arnaud nurse at the game also assisted.
His mother Melinda said Braydon had walked from the ground before collapsing.
“They say he was unconscious for at least 20 minutes,” Melinda said.
Braydon was taken to Bendigo hospital where a CT scan came back clear. He was released from hospital late Saturday night.
“It was a slow trip down to Bendigo because of his condition ... a reduced speed because of bumps in the road,” she said.
While now working in Swan Hill, Braydon returns to Wedderburn to play hockey and is staying with his mother for several days as the recovery begins.
“He’s been very lucky and it will just take time to recover,” Melinda said.
