Heritage rescue close to completion
RESTORATION of the remaining section of Inglewood’s historic Jennings Store in Brooke Street is near completion.
RESTORATION of the remaining section of Inglewood’s historic Jennings Store in Brooke Street is near completion.
Construction barricades are expected to come down within weeks and reveal the rear section of the shop that survived a 2024 fire that has been remodelled using original bricks.
Side walls have also been stablised and capped with bricks salvaged from the fire debris.
The history of the site stretches back more than 160 years. Originally established by merchant William Jennings, the business became one of Inglewood’s most significant commercial enterprises during the town’s early development. Members of the Jennings family traded from the premises from the 1860s until 1965, supplying goods and services to generations of district residents.
Current owner David Oakley has conducted his chicken sales from the site for more than half a century.
