THE former Pyramid Hill pet food factory site could be back in use within 12 months processing industrial hemp.
Yarrawalla’s Kia-Ora Piggery owner Tom Smith has signed contracts to buy the factory site idle since Bush’s Pet Foods closed operations in February 2009.
Mr Smith is now looking to irrigation farmers across the Loddon to grow hemp in spring and summer for processing from next June.
He said water was key to growing hemp crops.
Mr Smith said on Tuesday the aim was to have vertical integration of irrigators in the production and investment of hemp processing in the region.
The meeting will be at Victoria Hotel Pyramid Hill on Monday at 7pm
