CHORISTERS and musicians will fill Inglewood Town Hall with the sounds from Handel’s famous oratorio the Messiah this Sunday.
Dunolly Gilbert and Sullivan Society’s Rachel Buckley is bringing Heidelberg Choral Society to town for the Messiah in the Country performance.
“The Heidelberg society is celebrating its centenary with a country tour ... 60 choristers with orchestra and professional soloists under the baton of conductor Peter Bandy will perform in Inglewood before their Melbourne season,” she said.
“And the audience is welcome to bring a score and singalong to the great choruses including the famous Hallelujah chorus.”
It will be the Heidelberg choir’s third visit to the region in the past decade after sellout performances in the Dunolly Town Hall in 2014 and 2017.
Peter Bandy has been artistic director and conductor since 2011, earning a formidable reputation conducting successful performances of choral, orchestral, opera and ballet music.
George Frideric Handel wrote The Messiah in 1741 with its premiere at Easter. While originally an Easter oratorio, the music has become synonymous with Christmas, particularly the Hallelujah Chorus.
The Inglewood performance on November 26 will include interval with wines available by the glass from the award-winning Bridgewater winery Black Wallaby.
The interval tea and biscuits or scones will be a fundraiser for the local Inglewood St Mary’s Catholic Primary School.
Rachel said tickets were selling fast for the special performance and she expectedthe Inglewood Town Hall would be at capacity.
