STRONG off-season staff recruitment has Loddon pool managers Belgravia Leisure ready for this weekend's opening of the shire’s five pools.
Seasonal pools manager Kai Nielson said a team of 42 lifeguards was ready for the planned November 19 opening at Inglewood, Boort, Mitiamo, Pyramid Hill and Wedderburn pools.
“That’s more than we had for the entire season last year,” Kai said. However, he said Belgravia wanted to have a staffing safety net and would continue recruitment throughout the swimming season.
“We would still like some more senior people, particularly in the Boort and Pyramid Hill areas,” Kai said. “That will give us a safety net and allow us to backfill positions from other areas in the shire.”
Belgravia has retained about half its local pool staff from last season.
Kai said continued recruitment would also assist with staffing in the final weeks of the season when some staff would begin or return to university studies.
“We’ll keep hiring as a backup to expected staff loses in February.”
Kai said site inductions had started this week and pool cleaning had already been completed at Boort, Pyramid Hill and Mitiamo.
He said Belgravia would release an event calendar for the five pools with group fitness sessions able to be included this year.
Belgravia took on management of the five Loddon pools just months before the 2021-2022 season started. The industry across Victoria faced severe staffing challenges last season.
